The Money Game

Money makes me hungry, hungry for more.  I love to count money, to spend it, to hoard it, to gift it, to donate it, to work for it, to accumulate it, and to fret over it.

Let’s try free associating on the word money.  Time, angry, alone, hard, exasperated, defeated, longing, trifle, asking, being denied, worry, tension, arguments, not enough, never enough, replacement, hard work, long hours, green energy, freedom, travel, abundance, gifts, rescue, manipulate, play, movies, games, cars, clothes, baby food, Portobello mushrooms, capers, eating out, limitless funds, investments, rich, poor, opportunity, education, houses, bigger houses, remodeled kitchens, lawn services, landscaping, yoga retreats, manicures and pedicures, parties, Christmas, presents, frivolity, good wine, jewelry, rings and bracelets and necklaces, Jordan, illness, insurance, retirement, long-term health care, disabled, old, financially independent, school, grand-daughter, weddings, graduation, selling my business, loss of income, power, prestige, clout, income generating, real estate investments, upkeep, manageability, funeral, death and dying.  You cannot take it with you.

I guess that about says it all.   Well maybe not.  Here is what others say about money.

A successful man is one who makes more money than his wife can spend. A successful woman is one who can find such a man.   Lana Turner

What’s money? A man is a success if he gets up in the morning and goes to bed at night and in between does what he wants to do.   Bob Dylan

The lack of money is the root of all evil.   Mark Twain

When I was young I thought that money was the most important thing in life; now that I am old I know that it is.   Oscar Wilde

If money help a man to do good to others, it is of some value; but if not, it is simply a mass of evil, and the sooner it is got rid of, the better.    Swami Vivekananda

And my favorite:  Money is human happiness in the abstract; he, then, who is no longer capable of enjoying human happiness in the concrete devotes himself utterly to money.    Arthur Schopenhauer
